Tell us about yourself
I studied economics at the University of St. Gallen and completed a doctorate in Sustainable Development at the University of Oldenbourg and the ETH Zurich. I have ten years of experience as a venture capitalist and worked for innotech VC, Finlab AG and AIG Sustainable Investment Group. I was involved in several investments, IPOs, trade sales, and fund investments, e.g., RTT AG (acquired by Dassault Systèms) and blau.de (acquired by KPN). In 2011, I co-founded Zapitano, a social TV platform. Besides that, I acted as Venture Partner for Finlab AG and Heliad Equity Partners and was a lecturer at the University of St. Gallen and TU Berlin. In 2014, I founded Business Buddies GmbH, which supports young founders in their set-up, strategy development and financing. I am also vice-chairman of the Supervisory Board at SleepZ AG and run the Berlin Alumni chapter of the University of St. Gallen.

Why did you want to join Masters of Scale?
From my daily work with numerous founders and start-ups, I know that many accelerators and initiatives help founders start a company, but there are only a few helping to scale the start-up. However, scaling a company is probably far more challenging than starting a company. That is where Masters of Scale comes into place. Masters of Scale brings experts with different backgrounds together to pursue the same mission: helping start-ups become successful scale-ups and eventually real outliers. It’s a real honour to be part of such an outstanding group of experts.

Why are you passionate about entrepreneurship?
How can’t you be passionate about entrepreneurship, people driven by the mission to create something entirely new to make the world a little bit better and take the high risk of failing?

What was the most defining moment in your career, and what did you learn from it?
It’s hard to choose one exact moment. However, the failure of my start-up was a defining moment. It was a tough journey for a long time with all kinds of issues, e.g., no product-market fit, team issues, and lousy execution. However, I must say I wouldn’t be where I am without that experience when I look back.

What is your expertise and what are you known for?
Supporting companies in raising funds.

In what industries or settings can you add the most value?
Mobility, Energy, Food, Proptech, Circular economy
